BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 20. The volume of Kyrgyzstan's exports of agricultural products reached 11,227 tons from January 1 through 13, 2023, Trend reports citing the Kyrgyz Ministry of Agriculture.
The largest share of Kyrgyz agricultural exports in the reporting period fell on the Chuy region and amounted to 5,396 tons: 1,954 tons of vegetables, 1,103 tons of nuts, 626 tons of dried fruits were exported to Kazakhstan and Russia.
"From January 1 through 13 of this year, 1,533 tons of potatoes, corn 749 tons, and onions 547 tons were exported from the Batken region to Uzbekistan. A total of 1841 tons were exported from the Talas region, of which: legumes - 1,515 tons to the countries of Russia, Serbia, Macedonia, Russia, Bulgaria, Iran, Kazakhstan, and Georgia, also potatoes, apples were exported to Kazakhstan," the Ministry said.
Agriculture is the backbone of Kyrgyzstan’s rural economy. It employs about 40 percent of the country’s labor force and accounts for about 20 percent of the gross domestic product. During the last year, Kyrgyz farmers produced agricultural products for 354.6 billion somoni ($4.1 billion), which is an increase of 7.3 percent compared to 2021.
