Talks on status of 201st Russian military base in Tajikistan to be continued
The close meeting between Russian minister of defense Anatoliy Serdukov and his Tajik counterpart Sherali Khayrulloyev and Tajik foreign minister Hamrokhon Zarifi was recently held in Dushanbe's governmental residence, Asia-Plus said.
Neither Tajikistan, nor Russia comments results of these talks.
According to the information, a principal decision on the 201st Russian military base was not made. It was decided that the talks on organization-staff structure of the base will continue.
It was reported that military-technical cooperation, including preparation of military staff for Tajikistan in Russian universities was discussed during the meeting.
Russian minister of defense Anatoliy Serdukov has recently paid working visit to Tajikistan. Serdukov planned to meet with Tajik defense and foreign ministers during the visit, the Tajik ministry of defense said. The Tajik ministry of defense stressed that Serdukov arrived in Dushanbe within agreements achieved during the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's visit to Tajikistan late July 2009.
A source said that major item of the talks were issues connected with changes to the Agreement between Russian and Tajik governments dated October 16, 2004 of "Staff and organization-staff structure of the 201st Russian military base in Tajikistan', as well as inter-governmental agreement 'Facilities of property, number and borders of land plots designed for the 201st Russian military base and their location in Tajikistan."
