Caches of arms and meds were uncovered in the Kamarob Gorge in East Tajikistan, RIA Novosti reported according to the interior ministry Chief of Staff Major General Tahir Normatov.
Violent clashes between government forces and Islamist militants go on in Rasht Region, some 30 kilometers east of Dushanbe, Asia-Plus news agency said on October 2.
On September 22 a special operation to hunt down militant leaders Abdullo Rakhimov, Mirzokhudzha Akhmadov and Alovuddin Davlatov, kicked off in eastern Tajikistan. The militants are blamed for September 19 attack on a military convoy in Kamarob Gorge in which at least 28 servicemen were killed.
"It appears that the militants who hide in the mountains have decided to made thorough preparations for long wintering," Normatov said.
There is no phone communication with Rasht district since September 22.
