Tajikistan backs international war on terror: President Rakhmon

The visiting Tajikistan's President Emomali Rakhmon on Monday said that his country backs international community's stratgecy on war against terrorism and extremism, adding Tajikistan supports Afghan government's efforts to bring peace and statblity to the war-torn country, Xinhua reported.

"Tajikistan government backs international strategy on war agasint terrorism and extremism," Emomali Rakhmon told a joint press conference with Afghan President Hamid Karzai at the fortified Presidential Palace in the Afghan capital Kabul.

Calling for joint fight against terrorism and narcotics, he also said that his country supports Afghanistan's efforts to bring peace and stability.

"It is not only Afghanistan's problem, it is also Tajikistan's problem and it is a regional and international problem that needs international struggle," he emphasized.

He also noted that Tajikistan and Afghanistan are two old friends and good neighbors and Tajikistan would stand alongside the people of Afghanistan.

In his speech, President Karzai described Tajikistan as a good neighbor with common history, culture and religion and lauded its role in the rebuilding process of Afghanistan.

Responding to a question about his office receiving cash from Iran as the U.S. daily The New York Times reported days ago, Karzai confirmed that his chief of staff had received money from Iran, saying the payment was transparent and a form of aid from the country that has good relations with Afghanistan.

He said that other countries also provide financial assistance to Afghan government.

Karzai also repeated his decision for disbanding private national and
international security firms in Afghanistan.

Before the joint press conference, a series of agreements for enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries had been signed.
