Some 32.5 kg of drugs have been confiscated from a Tajik local resident in the southeast of the country near its border with Afghanistan, the Tajik Interior Ministry said Friday, Xinhua reported.

Twenty kg of marijuana, four kg of hashish and 8.5 kg of opium were seized during an anti-drug operation conducted in the Guliston village in Shuroabad district, 180 km southeast of the capital Dushanbe, the Interfax news agency reported citing the ministry.

The local resident was allegedly instructed to deliver the narcotics received from Afghan drug dealers to smugglers.

Meanwhile, Tajik National Security Committee said on the same day that a weapons cache was busted in the southern part of the country 200 km south of Dushanbe.

The cache in the Mekhrvar village of Panj district "contained a machine gun, three Kalashnikov assault rifles with cartridges, two grenade launchers and about 100 different cartridges," the committee said.

The committee said it was possible that those weapons belonged to drug traffickers, as the cache was close to the Tajik-Afghan border.
