Tajik President Emomali Rahmon expressed his willingness "to seek ways in cooperation with Russia to resolve issues around the Russian airline pilots."

President Rahmon stated about this during a meeting with Russian ambassador Yuri Popov in his residence, a source in the Tajik government told ITAR-TASS.

Mr. Rahmon stressed that "the trial (on Russian pilot Vladimir Sadovnichiy and Estonian citizen Alexei Rudenko) caused a serious concern".
However, President Rahmon said, Tajikistan is the constitutional state, where the rule of Law is established. "Nevertheless, we together with Russia should search a solution to this problem, with respect for international law."

Pilots Sadovnichiy and Rudenko were sentenced to eight and a half years in prison in Tajikistan on November 8, when they were found guilty of smuggling, illegal border crossing and violating flight rules.

Both pilots did not plead themselves guilty.
