Within the next 10-12 years, Tajikistan intends to join non-permanent members of the UN Security Council, Tajik FM Hamrokhon Zarifi said during a meeting with journalists, Avesta reported on Friday.

Within the next 10-12 years, Tajikistan intends to join non-permanent members of the UN Security Council, Tajik FM Hamrokhon Zarifi said during a meeting with journalists, Avesta reported on Friday.

"In 2012, Tajikistan paid special attention to activity directions of the committees and commissions of the United Nations and our country for the first time in its history will join the UN's commission for development in 2014-2016," Zarifi said.

He said last year Tajikistan also sent a request to the UN in order to join three committees and commissions of this influential international organization.

Today, UN Security Council's non-permanent members are: Australia, Argentina, Azerbaijan, Guatemala, Luxembourg, Morocco, Pakistan, Republic of Korea, Rwanda and Togo.
