Tajikistan conferring “leader of the nation” status on president

A group of MPs of the lower chamber of Tajikistan's parliament worked out a bill titled "On the Founder of Peace and Harmony - the Leader of the Nation," the Asia-Plus reported Nov. 23.
The bill is currently being studied by the committees and commissions of the house of representatives of the country's parliament, Asia-Plus quoted Muhammadato Sultonov, spokesman for the parliament's lower house, as saying.
However, he didn't elaborate on the bill.
Asia-Plus said it learned that the bill was prepared to confer the status of the "leader of the nation" on Tajikistan's President Emomali Rahmon.
The bill is expected to be adopted soon.
