Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani held talks in Dushanbe, the main topics of which became strengthening of bilateral cooperation in the fight against terrorism, extremism, drug smuggling, transnational organized crime, as well as other threats and challenges of the modern world, press service of the Tajik president reported May 10.

In this context, the parties recognized coordination of activities at the regional and international levels as vital.

The issues of strengthening and intensification of good-neighborly relations between the two countries were also among the main topics of the dialogue.

It was noted at the meeting that the implementation of projects in the fields of energy and development of transport and transit infrastructure, as well as the project of regional importance CASA-1000 (the 1000 Electricity Transmission and Trade Project for Central Asia and South Asia (CASA)) will increase the transmission of electricity from Tajikistan to Afghanistan.

Tajikistan is also interested in the construction of Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Turkmenistan railway.

The need to intensify the activities of the joint commission on trade, economic, technical and cultural cooperation was also discussed at the meeting.

Following the talks, the presidents of the two countries signed a joint statement on the expansion and strengthening of bilateral cooperation.
