BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 26. Tajikistan exported a total of 9,784 kg of gold to Switzerland in 2022, Trend reports referring to the Customs Service of Tajikistan.

According to statistical data, the value of Tajik gold exports to Switzerland amounted to $572.9 million in 2022, which is an increase of 7.6 percent compared to 2021 ($532 million).

Trade between Switzerland and Tajikistan is modest. Switzerland imports mainly gold from Tajikistan for further processing. Swiss entrepreneurs are involved in Tajikistan's cotton industry, among other sectors.

Tajikistan is one of the countries, that has rich deposits of gold and is continually expanding the production of this metal. Today, 18 gold mining companies operate in Tajikistan, with one of the largest being the Tajik-Chinese joint venture "Zarafshon," which accounts for 70 percent of total gold production throughout the country.

In 2020, Tajikistan exported $780M in gold, making it the 58th largest exporter of gold in the world. The same year, gold was the 1st most exported product of Tajikistan. The main destination of gold exports from Tajikistan were Switzerland, United Arab Emirates, and Turkiye.
