DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, August 28. Kazakhstan is planning to import electricity from Tajikistan, Trend reports.
According to the Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Energy, the issue was discussed by Kazakhstan’s Minister of Energy Almasadam Satkaliyev, Tajikistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Usmonzoda Usmonali, and Tajikistan’s Deputy Minister of Energy and Water Resources Manuchehr Safarzoda.
It was noted that in 2023, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan signed a memorandum of understanding regarding the supply of electricity generated by the Tajik Rogun Hydropower Plant (HPP) for the period of 2023-2032.
“I am pleased to report that we are set to review the technical parameters and commercial conditions for the potential export of electricity from the Rogun HPP to Kazakhstan. This will be done considering technical feasibility and agreed transit arrangements through Uzbekistan’s electricity networks,” Satkaliyev said.
According to the Ministry, the parties have agreed to work on establishing agreements to manage unscheduled electricity flows between the energy systems of neighboring countries by October 15, 2024, in coordination with interested organizations in Central Asia.
