Turkmen president signs pardon decree

Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov signed a decree pardoning prisoners in honor of the sacred Muslim holiday - Omnipotence Night (Gadyr Gijesi). The document directed to pardon and release the prisoners from further serving the principal punishment, as well as from an additional punishment in the form of imposing the duty of accommodation in some areas.
The Muslim world marks the holy month of Ramadan - time of fasting.
The document says the move is dictated by "the principles of charity, philanthropy, justice and humanism bequeathed to us by great ancestors with a view to further strengthen the unity and cohesion of the Turkmen society and every family and in honor of the sacred Gadyr Gijesi.
Earlier, Berdimuhammadov instructed relevant services to "approach to this action responsibly, as it is meant to raise the Turkmen people's spirit and age-old values of mercy , humanity, and justice, and to take measures so that the pardoned can celebrate ' Gadyr Gijesi ' in their homes ."
