The President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has demanded that all measures be taken to speed up the rate of cotton harvesting, Altyn Asyr national TV channel reported on Tuesday.

The pace of harvesting was discussed during a videoconference meeting held between regional heads and agricultural administrators. At this stage, the country is implementing seasonal agricultural work, including wheat planting and cotton harvesting.

The President "stressed the necessity of strictly following proper agro-technical norms" and said that regular measures must be in place to support and stimulate the villagers. All these measures should help to further improve the profitability of the country's agro-industry.

Specific instructions have been distributed regarding the timely settlement of accounts with tenants. An area of 550,000 hectares is predicted to yield around 1.05 million tons of cotton for harvesting.

About 1.6 million tons of food grains are expected to be collected from 860,000 hectares of land in 2012.
