Turkmen-Romanian consultations between foreign ministries were held in Ashgabat, Turkmen Dovlet khabarlary state news service reported on Tuesday.

A Romanian delegation was headed by the First Deputy Foreign Minister and State Secretary for European Affairs Bogdan Aurescu.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on enhancing interactions in the sphere of international relations, trade, economy, energy, cultural and humanitarian fields.

"Members of the delegations of the two friendly countries' foreign ministries stressed high level Turkmen-Romanian relations and the positive dynamics of partnership development within the authoritative international structures, including the UN, OSCE, and European Union, stressing their proximate positions on many international policy issues," the report said.

It was also noted that "a new impetus to strengthening and expanding a multifaceted cooperation" between Turkmenistan and Romania was given during the Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov's visit to Romania in May, when high level talks were held with President Traian Basescu, based on which agreements were reached and a package of documents signed, aimed at intensifying bilateral cooperation.

In this context, participants of the consultations discussed tasks on the practical implementation of bilateral agreements and enhancing efficient relations in all fields, stressing the "mutual determination to bring out an intergovernmental dialogue on the new levels in principle, based on a long-term, mutually beneficial foundation."

Aurescu delivered a lecture at the International Relations Institute of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.
