Turkmenistan, a country with a strong education offer

Suitable conditions are being created for the withdrawal of Turkmenistan in the number of states without a developed educational system, the President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said to delegatesatf the international conference 'Education in the Epoch of Great Revival,' which opened in Ashkhabat.

"Programmes and cooperation agreements in education with leading academic centres in Asia, Europe and America have been successfully carried out and Turkmen youth receives education in large and prestigious schools," Mr Berdymuhamedov said.

According to the president, reforms throughout the country brought about a radical renewal of all the structures of the education system. Curricula and programmes, current published books and manuals were improved and electronic literature is available.

According to the president work continues on the introduction of the latest achievements of world science to the education system, equipping it with the modern educational technology, laboratory equipment and computers. Specialised schools for gifted children have been opened.

The disbanded Academy of Sciences has been restored as education returns to the normal standards. Overseas diplomas are now accepted and a unique institution of the desert and the sun was reinstated. The project of the technology park has also been delivered.

The Turkmenistan Ministry of Education is negotiating to open a satellite of Columbia University (USA) in the country, but the president is not fully up to speed with its progress. A branch of the Russian State University of Oil and Gas named after I.M.Gubkina has been operating in Ashkhabat since 2009.
