Turkmen parliamentary (Majlis) committees continue working on drafting housing and family codes, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported on Saturday.

This issue was considered during the government meeting, at which the Mejlis chairman Akja Nurberdiyeva made a report.

Nurberdiyeva informed about MPs' activity in the context of the defined tasks on legal ensuring of social and economic reforms, market reforms, improving business and social activity in the country.

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov summarized the report, stressing that law-making activity is a key tool for implementing state policy and national reforms. He drew attention of the MPs on the actual directions of the parliament's activity, intended to "promote higher living standards of the Turkmen people, strengthening of civil institutions and consolidation of democratic values in society".

Turkmen parliament this summer notified about preparing legislative acts on housing privatization.

As is known, free privatization of municipal housing is envisaged in a number of the CIS countries. Housing privatization in Turkmenistan was suspended by former president Saparmurat Niyazov.
