Turkmenistan, UN seek to boost cooperation

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov received the UN Resident Coordinator,and Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Turkmenistan Lenni Montiel, who ends his diplomatic mission in the country on Tuesday, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reported.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov received the UN Resident Coordinator,and Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Turkmenistan Lenni Montiel, who ends his diplomatic mission in the country on Tuesday, the State News Agency of Turkmenistan reported.

Mr Montiel said the UN sees Turkmenistan as a 'reliable and responsible partner interested in further development of fruitful cooperation that meets the goals of general welfare and progress'.

President Berdimuhammadov, in turn, stressed that pursuing a policy based on principles of positive neutrality, peacefulness and good neighbourliness, Turkmenistan stands for the establishment of international cooperation and is active in issues associated with addressing today's urgent problems.

Stressing increasing dynamics of the dialogue between Turkmenistan and the UN, Mr Berdimuhammadov stressed Mr Montiel's personal contribution to the strengthening and boosting of constructive interaction established on a long-term basis.

The meeting also discussed priority aspects and prospects of traditional partnership covering social and economic, legal areas, humanitarian, education, health, ecological and other ranges.

The two sides exchanged views on opportunities of increasing efficient interaction between Turkmenistan and the UN. In this context, it was noted that 'the UN appreciates Turkmenistan's important contribution in the international community's efforts aimed at strengthening global peace and security, ensuring conditions for sustainable development in the region and the world and fully supports the Turkmen state's creative initiative designed to serve these purposes'.

Both sides expressed confidence in further successful continuation of the Turkmenistan-UN dialogue which meets the interests of general welfare and global development challenges.
