President of Turkmenistan Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in a letter to Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed his "sincere hope that the bilateral fruitful cooperation" will further develop.

"I want to express my sincere hope that the fruitful comprehensive cooperation, lasting for two decades, thanks to joint efforts and cordial relations between the leaders of the two countries will further develop and strengthen," the letter said.

Mr Ahmadinejad expressed hope that the sides will take "effective steps for the building of fair, humane relations based on the wisdom and benevolence, establishing equality in the international community, promoting and supporting the oppressed, eliminating violence and discrimination".

The message is timed to the 20th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Turkmenistan.

Turkmenistan together with Iran implemented large-scale projects such as the construction of "Dostluk" boundary reservoir between the two countries, Tejan-Sarakhs-Mashhad railroad, interstate pipelines and power transmission lines.

At present implementation of a major rail project "North-South", in which Kazakhstan also takes part, is underway. Construction of the railway is supported by the Asian and Islamic Development Bank.

The parties are also negotiating to increase energy supplies from Turkmenistan.
