The EU is assisting Turkmenistan in preparing mass media law, local media reported on Friday.
Ashgabat hosted the workshop "In Search of a model of modern media law," organized by the National Institute of Democracy and Human Rights.
The event was held within a joint project undertaken by the Turkmen government with EU and UK Foreign Office assistance.
The participants, including members of the Working Group of the Majlis (parliament) on preparing draft law of Turkmenistan "On mass media" discussed the possibility of exchanging experiences on up-to-date legal issues relating to media, including the establishment of commercial TV channels and print media outlets.
The Turkmen Dovlet Khabarlary state news service reports that at this stage of reforms the country "focuses on enhancing cooperation with international partners, implementation of international norms and standards into national law-making practice."
