Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov chaired a working video conference. A number of vice-chairmen of the Cabinet of Ministers, heads of provinces and Ashgabat attended it, the Turkmen government said on Tuesday.

The preparation of the draft statutes of the Turkmen Agrarian Party and the Party of Entrepreneurs was raised at the meeting.

President Berdimuhamedov stressed that the creation of a multiparty system in Turkmenistan is consistent with the purposes of further democratization of society and radical social reforms.

The President said that the development of a multiparty system is also important in terms of large-scale changes in state governance.
The law on "Political parties", allowing citizens to form political parties voluntarily according to their political convictions entered into force in Turkmenistan earlier this year.

A political party can be created by decision of the constituent congress.

It is necessary to establish an organization committee consisting of at least nine people.

The number of members of a political party must be at least 1,000 people. The governing bodies and structural units must be exclusively in the territory of Turkmenistan.

The Ministry of Justice registers a political party or refuses from registering it. A citizen older 18 constantly living in the country may be a member of the party.

Until now, only Democratic Party operated in the country. It was formed shortly after the national independence was declared - December 16, 1991.

President Berdimuhamedov heading the Democratic Party stressed in December 2011 that there may be a multiparty system in the near future.
