Turkmenistan appoints ambassador to United Arab Emirates

Orazumyrat Gurbannazarov has been appointed Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the United Arab Emirates (Abu Dhabi), an official Turkmen source said. The corresponding decree was signed by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov.

Orazumyrat Gurbannazarov has been appointed Ambassador of Turkmenistan to the United Arab Emirates (Abu Dhabi), an official Turkmen source said. The corresponding decree was signed by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov.

In late November 2011, foreign minister of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan visited Ashgabat. During a meeting with President Berdimuhammadov he said that "the UAE is deeply interested in the comprehensive development of effective dialogue with Turkmenistan in recent years".

It was also reported that the heads of states agreed to exchange official visits. Dates will be agreed through diplomatic channels.

Turkmenistan and UAE cooperate in the fuel and energy sector, investments, urban planning and trade. In particular, this country's companies are involved mainly in the oil and gas industry at this stage.

Dragon Oil operates under a Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea. Petrofac is the contractor carrying out services in the development of the country's largest gas field South Yoloten in the Mary region. In addition the Mubadala Company is having talks on cooperation prospects in the Caspian Sea.

Projects in the area of communications are being studied and in particular, Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (Etisalat) from the UAE which one of the largest mobile operators in the world (over 100 million subscribers), is eyeing the local market.
