Provision of the population with clean drink water is one of the main goals of Turkmenistan, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdymuhamedov said on the threshold of forthcoming national holiday "A Drop of Water - A Grain of Gold", traditionally celebrated in the country on the first Sunday of April, the state news service Turkmen Dovlet khabarlary said on Saturday.
"Provision of the population with clean drinking water is one of our main goals. Several major projects in this direction are developed and implemented, wastewater treatment facilities that are equipped with the latest technology from leading manufacturers are constructed in Ashgabat and in the regions," Berdymuhamedov said.
At present, local scientists and experts are working on the desalination of salt water and its use in the economy.
"We will always focus on the issues of provision of population with clean drinking water" the President said.
Key priorities of state policy found its practical expression in a number of large-scale projects, including the construction of modern hydrotechnical facilities, such, for example, as the Turkmen Lake Altyn Asyr in the Karakum Desert.
Turkmenistan attaches great importance to the issue of rational water use and development of water management, which is evidenced by the construction of new reservoirs filled with the water of the Amu Darya, the Murghab, Tedzhen, Etrek stretched across the desert Karakum Man-Made River.
"No less revealing are international initiatives put forward by Turkmenistan in the field of efficient use of water resources, environmental protection, aimed at uniting the efforts of the international community in addressing pressing problems in this vital area," Berdymukhamedov said.
