Turkmen president to discuss cooperation in Belarus

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov will visit Belarus in April, Belarusian media reported, citing a source in the Foreign Ministry.

According to BelaPAN agency, deputies of the lower House of the Belarusian Parliament have ratified an agreement on the mutual provision of sites for embassies with Turkmenistan.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov exchanged views on key issues of bilateral cooperation via phone late last year. A telephone conversation took place on the initiative of official Minsk.

"During the talks the leaders exchanged views on key issues of bilateral cooperation, stressing that the interstate dialogue has recently reached a qualitatively new stage of development in all directions," the information said.

The two countries hold regular talks to accelerate supplies of Belarusian agricultural and othermachinery to Turkmenistan. Moreover, Turkmenistan has been implementing a large-scale joint project on mining in Lebap.

The first phase is estimated at $1 billion.

Belgorkhimprom has been realizing the project since August 2009.

Mineral fertilizers is one of Turkmenistan's most profitable sectors.
