Turkmenistan applies electronic system in CEC

A workshop was held on the 'Development of electronic register of voters: international experience and national practice' in the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda of Turkmenistan, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported.
The workshop was held as part of a joint project of the CEC and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) 'Enhancing the Electoral System and Processes in Turkmenistan' and was attended by international experts in the field of improvement and development of concepts and systems.
The workshop aims at providing expert support in determining the prospects for the modernisation of information technology resources, the development of an electronic register of voters list and holding training on voter registration.
The workshop presented experience on use of Internet resources, application of an electronic document circulation system in the elections and establishing institutional, technical, and informative database on its base.
As was previously reported, the National Parliament, the Mejlis, of Turkmenistan has scheduled election of gengesh members (local government) for Aug.19.
