Turkmen president signs pardon decree

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov signed a decree "On pardoning convicted persons in the honor of Day of Revival, Unity and Poetry of Makhtymguly Fragi".

According to the decree, the pardoned individuals will be released from subsequent serving of the main and additional penalty in form of duties to live in a particular place.

There are 987 Turkmen citizens and 35 foreign nationals among those pardoned.
According to the report, this corresponds to "the principles of mercy, justice and humanism in order to further strengthen unity and solidarity of the Turkmen society and every family, as well as in the honor of the Day of Revival, Unity and Poetry of Makhtymguly Fragi".

The relevant departments are instructed to ensure all pardoned citizens' return to home and be at their homes with their families.

"In our country, we create all conditions for the citizens, stumbling and sincerely repent of their deeds, to redeem their guilt honestly and make a contribution to the common prosperity of the Motherland," Berdimuhammadov said at the government meeting.

The president instructed heads of regions, etraps (districts) and cities, as well as other leaders to provide those pardoned with jobs.
