President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov received the CEO of Strabag SE (Austria), Hans Peter Haselsteiner, national TV channel Turkmenistan reported.

Haselsteiner expressed satisfaction with the investment climate created in Turkmenistan, attracting leading business circles of Europe including Austria, the report says.

President Berdimuhammadov said that Turkmenistan is always open to constructive dialogue with leading foreign companies that can offer the best innovation and know-how.

While discussing cooperative prospects, it was noted that "one of the most important spheres of mutual interest may be the construction of modern highways of international importance and improvement of tourist zones. Such a creation is one to which Turkmenistan attaches special importance in view of a huge transit-transport potential and ambitious plans for the development of the recreation industry".

Austrian Federal President Heinz Fischer visited Ashgabat in October, during which several bilateral agreements including an agreement on air traffic, as well as a programme of cooperation between the Turkmen Foreign Ministry and the Ministry for European and International Affairs of the Republic of Austria for 2012 were signed.
Presidents Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan and Heinz Fischer of Austria in a joint communique stressed "the importance of multi-variant pipeline infrastructure to strengthen energy security in both regional and global scale".

Turkmenistan is one of the most important partners in energy security for Austria and the EU. In particular, the Nabucco project envisages a gas supply from the Caspian region and Middle East to the EU countries. This will diversify the sources of supplying raw materials.

Turkmenistan could join this project due to the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline being constructed in the future. The Austrian delegation includes representatives of the OMV Company. It is one of equal partners in the Nabucco Gas Pipeline International - Nabucco Project Company.

The joint communique says that both sides also announced their intention to encourage the strengthening of cooperation in the sphere of mutual interest, such as transport, chemical industry, telecommunications, rational use of natural resources and environmental protection, as well as in the fields of culture, science, education, arts, tourism and sports.
