Constructive relationship exists between Portugal and Turkmenistan

In his letter to Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Portuguese President Anibal Cavaco Silva expressed confidence that "the close and friendly relations will continue to develop both in bilateral and multilateral formats".

In his letter to Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Portuguese President Anibal Cavaco Silva expressed confidence that "the close and friendly relations will continue to develop both in bilateral and multilateral formats".

Local media outlets posted the letter on Monday.

"Stable and constructive relationship, based on common values and principles of democracy, respect for human rights and generally accepted norms of international law, to which we are committed in our bilateral and multilateral cooperation, have established between the two countries in two decades," the letter says.

According to Silva, this important event will serve as an impetus for the further enhancing of relations in all spheres of mutual interest, including economic and cultural spheres.

Turkmenistan has intensified cooperation with Latin American countries, including Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and Venezuela in recent years. In particular, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez visited Ashgabat in late 2009, who became the first president in the continent visiting Turkmenistan.
