The European vector is the highest priority of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow's foreign policy strategy as he is focused on building an effective model of international cooperation in the name of common interests, a report of the Turkmen Foreign Ministry, issued by the country's embassy in Azerbaijan, stated.
This was discussed during a meeting between the Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov with the EU Special Representative for Central Asia, Patricia Flor.
The EU Special Representative and officials accompanying her arrived in Ashgabat to participate in the Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan-2012 international exhibition and the 17th international scientific conference, 'The main trends of oil and gas industry and international cooperation'.
The EU representative noted the constructive approach of Turkmenistan in solving urgent issues for all mankind, the growth of the country's international prestige , evidenced by the election of Turkmenistan in the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for the period from 2013 to 2015.
The issues of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the European Union were discussed during the meeting. It was emphasised that Turkmenistan, being a reliable partner in the field of energy supply to world markets, is a strong supporter and proponent of the supply route diversification advocating the creation of a comprehensive international mechanism in the field of energy security.
The sides stressed the need to improve and expand the existing legal framework of cooperation by holding regular meetings and consultations allowing the building of multilateral cooperation on a long term mutually beneficial basis.
