Turkmenistan is widely celebrating Eid al-Adha (Feast of the Sacrifice), which runs until October 17.

"Eid al-Adha has a special place in the life of people in the new historical era," Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov told the people today. "By turning into a hymn of humanism, this holiday is widely celebrated in the country for three days in accordance with national traditions and ancient customs."

Turkmenistan began publicly celebrating Eid al-Adha after independence. Traditionally, during Eid al-Adha, music is heard on the streets of country's cities, a lively trade is being carried out and high swings are installed throughout the settlements as a 'symbol of purification'.

Holy Salat al-Eid (special Eid prayer) and sacrifice ritual will be performed in all mosques throughout the country on the first day of the Eid al-Adha.

"Let your prayers for the unity and cohesion of our brave people, the success of our Motherland and your good wishes will be heard and accepted by Allah," the Turkmen president said.
