After talks in Abu-Dhabi between Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a signing ceremony of bilateral documents was held, Turkmen Dovlet Khabarlary (TDH) State News Service reported on Dec.10.

A joint statement was adopted as the result of the official visit of the Turkmen President on Dec.9-10.

According to the information, the sides signed the following documents: a programme of cooperation between the foreign ministries of the two countries in 2014; Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of higher education; Memorandum of Understanding between the Turkmen Academy of Sciences and the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology, UAE and a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of hydrometeorology.

In addition, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan and the Federation of UAE Chambers of Commerce and Industry to establish a joint business council.

The data in the information has been given with the reference to a speech by Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in Abu-Dhabi.

'For the first nine months of 2013, trade turnover between the two countries amounted to one billion 209 million dollars, or 17.5 per cent more than last year. As of 2013 it is expected that the volume of trade will reach $1.5 billion', the information said.

In addition to the energy industry which is the main area of bilateral economic cooperation, Turkmenistan and the United Arab Emirates have been steadily increasing cooperation in the transport and communications sector, construction industry, health and medical industry and agriculture.
