The candidate nomination process for the early elections of deputies to the Majlis (parliament) and members of local self-governance bodies (gengesh) has begun in Turkmenistan, the CEC said on March 4.

"The candidate nomination process will start according to Article 44 of the Electoral Code," according to the report. "The agitation campaign will start following the registration."

The district election commissions were created in the N99 Kemin and N103 Zarpchy constituencies in Mary region upon the CEC's decision.

"The participants determined ensuring transparency, as well as conducting enlightenment among the population as the primary tasks," the CEC said.

Some 125 deputies of the fifth convocation of Turkmenistan were elected during the elections held in December 2013. The number of voters was 2,797,637 people or 91.33 percent of all Turkmen citizens eligible to vote.
