Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan are moving on the right path of development and strengthening of bilateral relations, Turkmenistan's Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Toyli Komekov said on May 7.
The ambassador made the remarks at the event to celebrate the 290th anniversary of the Turkmen poet and philosopher Magtymguly Fraghi in Baku.
The scientific event entitled 'Magtymguly Fraghi - poet of friendship and brotherhood'' was held at the Institute of Manuscripts named after Muhammad Fizuli of the Azerbaijani National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), with the assistance of Turkmen embassy in Baku.
"This conference to celebrate the 290th anniversary of Magtymguly Fraghi is another manifestation of Turkmen-Azerbaijani friendship," Komekov said.
The ambassador stressed that the friendly relations and multilateral cooperation between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan have a sound basis of centuries-old national traditions of the two nations, as well as deep historical and cultural roots.
"The heads of the two states, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev are leading the current era of development of Turkmen-Azerbaijani relations," Komekov said.
The diplomat pointed out that the similarity or closeness of the two countries' positions on various global and regional development issues contributes to the close cooperation between them.
"And this is a reliable basis for the effective collaboration in international organizations, primarily, in the UN, OSCE, CIS and other international structures," Komekov stressed.
The large-scale development of trade and economic cooperation and partnership is one of the main factors in strengthening the friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries, according to the ambassador.
"Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan have every opportunity to bring this partnership to the level corresponding to the real opportunities and the objective needs of the two countries.
Today, we can confidently say that we are moving on the right path, the path of development and strengthening of Turkmen-Azerbaijani relations," the diplomat added.
