Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and his Turkish counterpart Abdullah Gul had a phone conversation and discussed the prospects for bilateral cooperation, a message from the Turkmen government said on June 30.

"Exchanging views on the prospects for development of the traditional relations, the presidents praised the efforts of the two countries to improve the cooperation in the political, trade, economic, science, education and cultural spheres," the message said.

Berdimuhamedov underscored that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to the development of the constructive dialogue with Turkey which is an important partner in implementation of many national and regional projects.

The two sides emphasized the significance of the agreements reached after the high-level negotiations during the official visit of Turkmen president to Turkey in early June.

Turkmenistan is a key player in the gas market of the Caspian Sea region and Central Asia. The project envisaging the laying of around 300 kilometers long gas pipeline under the Caspian to the shores of Azerbaijan is regarded as the optimal option for delivering Turkmen resources to European markets. Further, the Turkmen fuel can be delivered to Turkey which borders with European countries.
