Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov is expected to pay an official visit to Belarus this week to promote the further development of the mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries, a message from the government of Turkmenistan said.

The preparations for the upcoming negotiations in Minsk, the capital of Belarus, were discussed during the meeting of Turkmenistan's Cabinet of Ministers.

"Berdimuhamedov emphasized the significance of the high-level bilateral negotiations aimed at promoting the further development of the mutually beneficial Turkmen-Belarus relations, as well as the effective implementation of multifaceted potential of these relations," the message said.

The head of state said the traditionally friendly relations between the two countries have successfully developed in recent years both in bilateral and multilateral formats.

The sides named the spheres of trade, transport, engineering industry, agricultural industry, energy, processing and chemical industry and construction among the key areas of cooperation.

Currently the largest joint project between the two countries is the construction of the Garlyk mining and processing plant in the Koytendag district of the Lebap region, where the richest potassium salt deposits of Turkmenistan are located.
