The President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace of cotton harvest at a meeting of cabinet of ministers, said the message of the government of Turkmenistan.

The president went on to add that defoliation of cotton fields has only recently begun in the regions, the number of cotton combines on the fields is insufficient, and transport is used inefficiently in some districts, the message said.

The head of state demanded to rectify the situation in a week's time, take all necessary steps for properly organization and timely completion of the cotton harvest.

This year, the country's farmers undertake to harvest 1.05 million tons of cotton, as they did last year.

Cotton is a weighty part Turkmenistan's export and is in demand as raw material for tens of modern enterprises dynamically developing in the country's textile industry.

Ashgabat annually hosts an international trade fair of cotton products of Turkmenistan.
