China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), a Chinese state-owned oil and gas corporation, is among the leading business partners of Turkmenistan, the country’s State News Agency reported Apr. 13.

Since 2007, CNPC has been carrying out exploration and infrastructure development of the fields that are part of the Bagtyyarlyk contract area, which serves as raw material base of the Central Asia–China gas pipeline (known also as Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline).

This largest energy main pipeline in Eurasia, originating on the right bank of the Amu Darya River, was commissioned in December 2009. In accordance with interstate agreements, 65 billion cubic meters of Turkmen natural gas will be annually delivered to China in the near future.

Development of the super giant Galkynysh field is among other major investment projects implemented jointly with CNPC.

The Galkynysh field, together with Yashlar and Garakel fields, with the estimated reserves of 27.4 trillion cubic meters of gas, is the world’s biggest onshore field.

At present, in accordance with the contract signed with Turkmenistan’s Turkmengas State Concern, CNPC will build another complex of facilities for production of commercial gas in the volume of 30 billion cubic meters per year at the Galkynysh field.
