Malaysia is confident of further expansion of partnership and friendly relations with Turkmenistan, said Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak in his letter to Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The letter has been sent on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The activity of Malaysia’s Petronas Charigali, which became the first foreign company that started developing the Turkmen section of the Caspian Sea, is noticeable on the Turkmen market.

The work is carried out on the basis of the 25-year Production Sharing Agreement (PSA) concluded in 1996 on the contract territory Block-1.

It was reported in November 2016 that the Malaysian government will study the opportunities for participation of its companies in the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project.

There are also prospects for diversification of cooperation. High technologies, banking sphere, urban development, processing of agricultural products and food industry, tourism are among priority areas.

The potential of cooperation in the transport and transit sphere is also being studied – Turkmenistan sees Malaysia as an important partner in the Asia-Pacific region.
