Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has instructed to ensure timely implementation of tasks on privatization of enterprises and state property objects and their transformation into joint-stock companies, as well as comprehensive support to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper said in an article June 7.
Berdimuhamedov made the remarks at a meeting with heads of the financial, economic, as well as banking sectors of the country’s economy. He also noted that it is necessary to minimize the Turkmen government’s direct intervention in the regulation of the country’s economy.
Among the main directions of the forthcoming work, the Turkmen president mentioned acceleration of the economy’s transition to market relations in accordance with the Turkmen Constitution.
It is necessary to create economic environment based on innovations and new technologies, significantly accelerate industrialization of Turkmenistan, Berdimuhamedov said.
He also stressed the need for tax reforms in the country and instructed to keep the inflation rate within a certain target, as well as maintain stable exchange rate of the Turkmen manat.
