By Huseyn Hasanov– Trend:

Muscat city hosted political consultations between the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and Oman, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in a press release.

At the talks, the sides touched upon issues of practical implementation of the agreements on the Uzbekistan-Turkmenistan-Iran-Oman transport corridor. The agenda included issues of the two countries’ partnership in the political, trade and economic, energy, transport and communication spheres.

“To ensure mutually beneficial cooperation, the sides noted the need to strengthen their legal framework,” the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said.

The parties discussed possibilities of establishing a joint intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation.

An agreement to create an international transport and transit corridor between the Islamic Republic of Iran, Qatar, Oman, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan was signed in Ashgabat in April 2011. This agreement aims to create a reliable link between the countries of Central Asia and the ports of Persian and Oman gulfs.

In accordance with the implementation of Turkmenistan's national program for development of the civil aviation, the country's national air carrier (Turkmenistan Airlines) plans to open air service from Ashgabat to Kuwait, Muscat, Sharm El Sheikh, Hurghada, Cairo.
