By 2020, the expected level of electricity production in Turkmenistan will reach 26,380 billion kilowatt-hours, and the volume of exported electricity will increase by several times, the Turkmen State Agency reported.

In this regard, the infrastructure projects are being accelerated. Currently, on the territory of the power plant in Mary velayat (region), a combined cycle power plant is being built. Measures are being developed to transfer power plants in the Dashoguz and Akhal velayats to a combined cycle.

"This will ensure conditions for the annual saving of natural gas in the production of electricity and will reduce the amount of harmful emissions into the atmosphere," the reports reads.

In recent years, 6 out of 14 planned gas turbine stations have been built in Turkmenistan. Until 2020, it is planned to put into operation energy facilities with a total capacity of 3,854 megawatts in Turkmenistan.
