Turkmenistan declared December 12 a day off in connection with the 22nd anniversary of the Day of Neutrality.

“I heartily congratulate you on the International Day of Neutrality, which is celebrated for the first time this year by independent neutral Turkmenistan together with the world community,” Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said in his greetings to his compatriots.

December 12 marks the anniversary of the permanent neutral status of Turkmenistan. On this day in 1995, the UN General Assembly adopted the resolution on permanent neutrality of Turkmenistan. In addition, on the initiative of Turkmenistan, the UN General Assembly this year proclaimed December 12 the International Neutrality Day.

Turkmenistan follows the principles of a neutral legal status and, according to its military doctrine, it adheres to the policy of defense sufficiency, the key-note of which is the refusal to participate in any military-political blocs.
