By Huseyn Hasanov – Trend:
Preparations are underway in Turkmenistan for the election of members of parliament, as well as local authorities to be held March 25, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in a message Feb. 15.
Registration of candidates, which will last until Feb. 27, continues. Upon its completion, the lists of candidates will be published in the press, and the pre-election campaign will begin.
“In all constituencies, several candidates are nominated for one seat, and this fully corresponds to the principles of alternativeness of the election,” the message said. “The participation of international and national observers in the election will contribute to its openness and objectivity.”
A total of 2,963 observers were registered from the Democratic Party of Turkmenistan, the Party of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, the Agrarian Party, public organizations and associations, as well as groups of citizens of the country.
Representatives of the CIS, the UN, the OSCE, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) stated that their representatives will participate as observers in the election.
