Turkmenistan develops banana production

Turkmenistan’s Hemsaya company has signed an agreement with Turkey’s Ays Seracilik on the construction of a greenhouse for growing bananas, Trend reports referring to Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan (UIET).
According to the document, the Turkish partner will assist in the construction of the greenhouse, install equipment, and familiarize the Uzbek side with the technologies and subtleties of growing tropical plants, the information says. The first sweet fruit harvest is planned for 2020.
Hemsaya was established in 2018. Some 300 hectares of land have been allocated for the company in the village of Garahan in Kaka District of Turkmenistan’s Ahal Region, with most of the territory being used as an orchard, and 20 hectares used for banana cultivation.
The production of exotics was first mastered in the country in Sakarchage District of Turkmenistan’s Mary Region. The local company Ferhar plans to get tens of tons of exotic fruits this year. Initially, 1,800 seedlings from Turkey took root in this region.
