ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, Dec. 14

By Huseyn Hasanov– Trend:

Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov has met in Ashgabat with Head of the EU Delegation in Turkmenistan (resident in Ankara) Christian Berger, Trend reports referring to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.

At the meeting, issues of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the EU were discussed.

Noting the role of cooperation within international organizations, the parties considered further steps to expand it in various fields, the report said.

The necessity of establishing inter-parliamentary cooperation was also discussed, according to the report.

In line with the agreements, an EU representative office will open in Turkmenistan in the near future.

EU technical assistance projects are being implemented in Turkmenistan, in particular, the Erasmus Mundus student exchange program (a program funded by the European Commission with the aim to encourage mobility in long-term and short-term of students and staff).

The EU and Turkmenistan are committed to implementing a project designed to bring Turkmen hydrocarbon energy carriers to European markets. The negotiations have been underway since 2011.

The project of laying a 300-kilometer gas pipeline along the bottom of the Caspian Sea to the shores of Azerbaijan is optimal for the delivery of Turkmen gas to the European market. Further, the Turkmen gas can be delivered to Turkey, which borders with European countries.
