BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 29. Russian Railways (RZD) subsidiary Russian Railways Logistics JSC has launched a regular container train on the eastern branch of the North-South Transport Corridor, through Turkmenistan, Trend reports citing Orient news.

The container train, which includes 31 40-foot containers, will transit through Kazakhstan to the Sarakhs station in Turkmenistan, where containers will be reloaded from the 1520 mm gauge to the 1435 mm gauge. Then the cargo will proceed through Iran to the Bandar Abbas port. Upon arrival at the port, the containers will be loaded onto the ship and will proceed by sea to the destinations according to the requests of the customers.

According to the schedule, the arrival of the train at the border of Turkmenistan and Iran at the Sarakhs station is scheduled for October 31. On the way back, the train will deliver the goods to Russia.

At the first stage, a regular train will run along the new export-import route along the eastern branch of the North-South Transport Corridor once a month. Russian Railways Logistics plans to increase the frequency of container train departures in this direction in the near future.
