Over a ton of drugs burnt on Turkmenistan Anti-drug Day

( Cihan ) - Officials in Turkmenistan destroyed more than a thousand kilos of drugs on the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

The action was organized by the government of Turkmenistan and the State coordination commission on the fight against drug abuse under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan.

Drugs were destroyed in the village of Kasamly Julge near the capital city of Ashgabat early in the morning on Tuesday. Drugs packed in cellophane bags of various sizes and in marked rolls totaling 1,91 tons, which were seized by Turkmen security forces during various anti-drug swoops.

The drugs including over 129,5 kg of heroin, 836 kg of opium, 4,5 kg of hashish, 30 kg of marijuana and 91 kg of poppy straws, were demonstrated to the participants.

Heads of the UN, OSCE, EU offices, diplomatic missions accredited to Turkmenistan and high-ranking guests were also present at the event.

The process of drug-burning was observed by plenipotentiary experts and employees of the law enforcement agencies as well.
