Uzbekistan, Tashkent, 30 June/corr. Trend T.Zhukov / The Senate of the Uzbek Oliy Majlis (Parliament) adopted changes to the Criminal Code, to toughen regulations of foreigners' sojourn in the country, the Senate said on 30 June.

In accordance with the changes, adopted by the Uzbek Parliament, henceforth any foreigner violating the local legislation will be expelled from Uzbekistan. The Entry, Exit and Citizenship Department of the Central Department of Internal Affairs (CDIA) of Tashkent told Trend that foreigners would be expelled from the country if they violate sojourn regulation with respect to new regulations (residence without documents of the sojourn right in Uzbekistan or with illegal documents). This punishment will follow after non observance of formed order of temporal or constant registration, movement or selection of the residence place, deviation from departure after the deadline of the sojourn, non-observance of regulations on transit travel through the territory of the country. Earlier foreigners were punished with monetary penalty as a result of all above listed violations.

Moreover, in accordance with changes, all foreign citizens and persons without citizenship can face exclusion from the country after executing or passing the criminal punishment in line with the court sentence for the crime committed in the territory of Uzbekistan or release from criminal responsibility or punishment in cases specified in the legislation. All foreigners and persons without citizenship, violating the criminal code, will be deprived of a right to enter Uzbekistan after exclusion from the country.

Shavkat Mirziyayev, the Uzbek prime minister, developed a decree to toughen the regulations of foreigners' sojourn in mid-May 2008. Now the Senate of the Republic has adopted these changes.

"Changes to the Criminal Code will enable to improve the efficiency of measures to resist illegal migration and responsibilities of foreign citizens and persons without citizenship for observance of legislation on sojourn regulations in Uzbekistan," the Senate of Oliy Majlis said.
