Uzbekistan, Thailand discuss cooperation

Second round of political consultations between the foreign ministries of Uzbekistan and Thailand took place in Tashkent on Thursday, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.

A delegation of the foreign ministry of Thailand is led by Deputy Minister Jullapong Nonsrichai.
The first round of political consultations between Uzbekistan and Thailand was held in Brunei in December, 2010.

During these talks the sides discussed current state and perspective areas of bilateral cooperation.

It was stressed that since the first round intensification of bilateral relations has been observed and last year was noted by a number of joint measures which allowed to attach dynamic nature to cooperation.

Issues of trade and economic as well as investment cooperation play key role in the bilateral agenda.

The first business-forum with participation of business circles of both countries and the first meeting of inter-governmental commission on trade and economic cooperation in November, 2011 allowed to diversify ties in this field.

Turnover between Uzbekistan and Thailand amounted to $48.8 million in 2011, which is significantly more than last year.

The sides consider participation of investors from Thailand in 'Navoi' free industrial economic zone as promising area of mutually beneficial cooperation.

It was also noted that rich experience of development of tourism infrastructure in Thailand attracts attention of representatives of dynamically developing sector of Uzbekistan.

The sides expressed mutual interest in strengthening ties in cultural and humanitarian sphere.

The sides also exchanged views on other issues, which are of interest in terms of deepening cooperation between Uzbekistan and Thailand.
