"Unquestioningly obey the law, critically evaluate your work and live by the needs of the people. Every leader should possess such qualities, President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov said at a session of the Tashkent City Council, the Uzbek media reported.

The President noted the achievements of the capital during the years of independence and also drew attention to a number of problems and deficiencies that need to be resolved.

"Problems remain in Tashkent which require solutions and have been the cause discontent nationally. The majority of those present at this meeting are well aware of existing problems that thousands and thousands of residents have to face in their everyday life," Karimov said, addressing the session delegates.

In particular, he urged a review of the work of employment services, noting that the official unemployment statistics do not correspond to reality and the actual unemployment level in the country is higher.

"Tashkent officially registered 5100 unemployed as of today, but I think that in fact the real number is much more," the president said.

According to him, the official statistical data does not reflect the real situation because the unemployed do not apply to the department of employment to solve their problems.

Karimov has announced the names of the leaders who have committed violations of the law and an abuse of position and engaged in a criminal prosecution or relieved of their posts.

Among them are the governor of the Bektemir district of the capital, the deputy governor of Mirabad district and the first deputy governor of Almazar district heads of departments of the capital.
