Uzbek Cabinet of Ministers approved the position to establish the interdepartmental working group to examine the observance of human rights and freedoms by law enforcement and other government agencies.

Interdepartmental Working Group established for the purpose of effective coordination among law enforcement agencies to protect human rights and freedoms and to further improve their interaction with civil society.

According to the decree, the main tasks and activities of the interdepartmental working group will be the study and summary of issues related to the observance of human rights and freedoms, including the monitoring of the consideration and resolution of citizen's complaints about violations of their rights and freedoms, including complaints of torture and other degrading treatment.

The Working Group will propose the necessary measures to eliminate detected violations of legislation in the field of human rights and freedoms, as well as develop proposals to improve legislation, to ensure the implementation in national legislation and practice key UN conventions on human rights and freedoms.

In addition, the competence of the working group will include consideration of the concluding observations and recommendations of UN treaty bodies on the consideration of the periodic reports of Uzbekistan, as well as the approval and monitoring of national action plans for implementation of these comments and recommendations.

The composition of the interdepartmental working group will be approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
